How the room came together.
The brief
When originally approached, the first thing I asked for were the vertical elevations to see where head height was available. The architect hadn’t produced any, which is why the client was left in the dark about what the space could – and couldn’t do. We talked through what was available layout wise and how to best incorporate low lying built in storage. We also developed a soft, natural palette using heathers and plaids to give it a grown up feel with touches of pink and electric blue for bite. Furnishings were kept to a minimum but coordinated to make the space feel curated and chosen, rather than something the client had been left with. Gradually, from out of the disappointment of the restricted head height, we fashioned a space that the client was able to fall in love with that felt grown up and cherished.
